Statement in Response to Tuesday's Incident and Circulating Videos
Dear Dolgeville Central School District School Community,
Please know that the District has become aware of circulating videos late yesterday afternoon of an incident that took place at school this past Tuesday and have taken steps to determine the source, as use of cellphones in school is prohibited, as is the distribution of video containing any student(s) without consent. We are very aware of the unfortunate situation that occurred on January 20, 2026, addressed it immediately and continue to investigate this incident to ensure all parties are being held accountable for and through the District Student Code of Conduct. We continue to work with our District SPO and Village Police Department, and our Staff to conclude findings; and to date the primary offender and others involved have been held accountable for their behaviors and actions. In turn, we remain in contact with the victim's family and will continue to do so through their transition back to school and moving forward.
Also, every step is being taken by administration, following the District Student Code of Conduct, and applying it consistently to any violator involved in this incident; as is the case at all times. Additionally, as shared, we are working with our local law enforcement as well.
I would like to reiterate that behavior and conduct that imposes fear or harm to anyone is unacceptable and will continue to never be tolerated at Dolgeville CSD, not in the past, today, tomorrow, or in the future. We simply do not accept this type of behavior, whether it be verbal or physical. What we endorse, promote and practice is a kinder school for any student or person to feel safe and free to learn and enjoy. I ask those paying attention and monitoring this, to please give the District the necessary time for this incident to be fully investigated and addressed appropriately. Thank you.
Sincerely, Joseph J. Gilfus, Superintendent
