Dear Dolgeville School Community - please see the released statement from the NYS Police, thank you.
No Credible Threat Determined Following Reported Social Media Post at Dolgeville Central School
On April 20, 2026, at approximately 6:16 a.m., the New York State Police received a report from a male caller regarding a social media post in which a fourteen-year-old student was allegedly implicated in a potential school shooting at Dolgeville Central School.
The New York State Police, with the assistance of the Dolgeville Central School administration and the Dolgeville Police Department, immediately initiated an investigation.
The investigation determined that the reported threat originated from a misunderstanding. A student had shared information with peers, warning them of a possible incident after hearing about it from another student. Further investigation revealed that the information stemmed from a conversation overheard between staff members referencing an unrelated prior incident at Clinton Central School.
This information was taken out of context and circulated among students, leading to concern and the subsequent report to authorities.
Numerous interviews were conducted with students and staff, and electronic devices were reviewed during the investigation. At this time, there is no credible threat to the school, and no charges have been filed.
The New York State Police remind the public to report any potential threats and to verify information before sharing it to avoid unnecessary alarm.
Response to continued rumors of threats
Dear Dolgeville School Community,
Again, we want to assure our students, parents, staff, and the wider community that the safety and security of our schools remain our highest priority.
We are aware of additional concerns and rumors circulating, and we have taken all necessary steps to investigate these matters, again, thoroughly in collaboration with the New York State Police and local law enforcement.
We can confirm, again, that there are currently no credible threats to any of our school campuses, as was the case last week.
Our campuses are safe, and all school operations are proceeding normally. We encourage everyone to remain vigilant and continue to utilize our established channels for reporting any concerns directly to school administration or law enforcement. We will continue to monitor the situation closely and communicate transparently with the community. We also appreciate your patience as these investigations require thorough collaboration between the school and Police.
Thank you again for your cooperation and for entrusting us with the safety of your children.
Sincerely,
Joseph J. Gilfus, Superintendent of Schools

Dolgeville Central School District Playground Area -Temporarily Closed
Dear Dolgeville School Community,
Currently, and through Memorial Day Weekend, the Dolgeville Central School District Playgrounds and Cage Area are temporarily closed due to construction. We understand this news is disappointing, but the district has made the decision to schedule renovations to these important areas now so that we can enjoy them beginning early June and through the Summer and Fall seasons. Our goal is to turn these upgraded facilities back over to our school community as quickly as possible. Thank you so much for your understanding, cooperation and patience. Please contact me at any time with questions.
Sincerely,
Joseph J. Gilfus, Superintendent of Schools
