Emergency Drill

Dear DCS Families,

Please be reminded that this Wednesday, May 21st, we will be releasing all students at 1:30 PM sharp! During this early release, we will also be joined by our local volunteer fire and rescue folks who will be conducting a practice test as well, on campus with a few emergency rescue vehicles. What you need to know:

1- All students will be dismissed for the day at 1:30 PM sharp! (PreK programs will release earlier in the day). There is no PM BOCES. Students are reminded to gather all of their belongings at 1:30 PM so that they have what they need for home.

2- Dismissal will be normal, but just at 1:30 PM. Students will continue to bused home, picked up by family, and some who will walk.

3- We will be blocking off two areas to allow for fire and rescue vehicles, please be prepared to relocate and make room for our volunteer folks.

4- Elementary parents greeting their children after school will be asked to relocate and wait for their children on the sidewalk nearest the Jr. Sr. High School outdoor picnic area.

5- Parents parking in front of the Jr. Sr. High School one-way road will be asked to move their vehicles to allow emergency rescue vehicles to enter the front of the Jr. Sr. High School building; and be directed to relocate in the parking lot or lower end of Slawson Street. If you park in front of the school, you will be asked to move your vehicle.

6- No cars will be allowed to park in front of the school to allow for emergency rescue vehicles to secure their place.

Thank you in advance for your cooperation as we work together with our local fire and rescue folks to practice a dismissal drill that includes a practiced emergency at the same time. Our dismissal will include the fire alarm signaling at 1:30 PM and we will then gather our things for the day and dismiss in normal fashion with some minor planned adjustments. If you have any questions, please contact me directly. We expect all to go smoothly.

Thank you,
Joseph J. Gilfus, Superintendent of Schools
