Mask mandate ends March 2

Mask Mandate Ends March 2 For NYS Schools
Posted on 02/27/2022

Dear DCS School Community,

We have long-awaited news to share with you - Masks will not be required at schools statewide including at Dolgeville and in the Herkimer-Fulton-Hamilton-Otsego BOCES region effective Wednesday, March 2, 2022.

State Gov. Kathy Hochul made the announcement today, Sunday, Feb. 27, on the statewide end of the school mask mandate, in line with new guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and state trends in COVID-19 positivity and hospitalization rates.

The new CDC guidance released on Friday, Feb. 25, recommended that masks not be required in schools in communities designated as low to medium risk for COVID-19. Hochul announced the end of the mask mandate for all New York schools and that counties with higher risk can decide to impose their own school mask requirements

Dolgeville Central Schools and schools in the region are in communities that fall under low to medium risk, and the school mask mandate in the Herkimer BOCES region will be ending effective Wednesday, March 2.

Governor Hochul announced that additional guidance for schools will be finalized between now and Wednesday, March 2. School officials in the Herkimer BOCES region will be communicating with state officials and local health officials on questions about additional guidance such as whether masks will still be required in certain school locations such as nurses’ offices.

Although masks are no longer required at schools, school officials respect the choice for anyone to wear a mask in all settings in recognition of the potential risk particularly for those with young children in their homes or immune-compromised family members. Please respect anyone’s right to continue wearing a mask.

Additionally, the Dolgeville CSD has made available free home test kits to all families in our school community, and will continue to do so moving forward. Test kits can be picked up at either attendance office during school hours from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Please do not hesitate to pick up test kits or contact us with any questions you may have. It is very important that we continue to take the necessary steps that will help us all stay healthy and keep our programs open. The Dolgeville School Community has done a fantastic job facing the many challenges of the pandemic. Let's keep up the great work, and continue doing our part to get back to what we know as normal.

Thank you for your continued support of our students, staff and our entire school community. We appreciate your continued patience and cooperation as we approach Wednesday, March 2, 2022, and ask that everyone please comply with the masking mandate until Wednesday.

Stay well and take care of each other.
