Third grade is an exciting and fun year to learn new things. Here at DES we study several topics in various areas throughout the year. In Science, we focus on the weather, animals, lakes, ponds & rivers, and movement. Our Social Studies program allows us to “Visit” communities around the world. To do this we study each of the seven continents including its people, animals, and land. Our Mathematics program builds on our students’ previous knowledge of addition, subtraction, place value, etc. We also begin an exciting and challenging study of multiplication. We have implemented a new writing program called the Effective Communicator this year. We will concentrate on four types of writing. These include a Chronological Narrative, How-To, Compare/Contrast, and Expressing Your Opinion. Throughout the year the students will be tested on each piece of writing in the order that it is presented. We hope that your children enjoy third grade. As their teachers we enjoy working with them! |
