Kindergarten

Off to Kindergarten - the Adventure Begins!

Kindergarten is a fun and exciting time for children!  Our kindergarten team strives to provide a warm, friendly environment for children to grow. The kindergarten year is a time of change, development and growth.  The children learn so much! We use many methods to teach children at their own individual levels.  The activities we use, even those that look like “play”, are designed and planned to be developmentally appropriate and to teach the children the skills necessary for success in school. We like to see children succeed!

Some of the skills taught in kindergarten include: color and shape recognition, identifying numerals, alphabet letters and sounds, rhyming words, understanding patterns, using scissors and so much more! In Science, we explore body parts, the five senses, keeping healthy, plants, animals, weather & seasons, the environment and water.

We also encourage: sharing, listening to stories, following directions, getting along with others, and showing kindness and respect, among many other things.

It is helpful if children are able to independently dress themselves, - tying sneakers, putting on and zipping or buttoning coats, etc.

We assess the children’s progress on a daily basis, however, parents will receive our formal evaluation in the form of a report card, three times a year. The kindergarten team encourages parents to be strong partners in their child’s education. The best thing parents can do to help strengthen their children’s education is READ with them every day.
