Dolgeville Head Start is a program where children from the ages 3-5 can come for early education before kindergarten. Head Start is federally funded, and the class takes a few field trips during the
year. A typical week in the class is Monday through Thursday 8:00AM to 3:00PM, and many times parents come in to volunteer. Mrs. Pescatore is the teacher for the class. Her class consists of 18
students. The students learn the alphabet, numbers1-10, colors, shapes, learn to write their own name, and plant flowers for their science. The students also learn some animals and their sounds
(moo). There are also some common day things that are taught, like tying a shoe, zipping a jacket, and buttoning a shirt..
During the day Mrs. Pescatore takes her children outdoors either sledding, or playing on the playground depending on the season. If the weather does not permit Mrs. Pescatore takes her students to the gym
where they run, play catch, jump-rope, and bowl with plastic balls. In the class stories are read. There is breakfast in the morning, lunch towards noon, and there are a few snacks. Around the
middle of the day the students take a quick nap.
The room itself has different tables that the kids sit at, a block corner where the kids play with toy farm animals, a water table and a sand table, reading corner, a sink, and a play center that kids can play
with legos etc.
